Details: From September 1, 2010 - September 15, 2010 I will be accepting applications from those who are interested. I will announce a winner on September 16, 2010.UPDATE! DEADLINE CHANGED TO SEPTEMBER 19, 2010. WINNER ANNOUNCED SEPTEMBER 20, 2010! -You must live in Seattle, WA -You must be ready and willing to have a coop by October 1, 2010 -Coop needs to be located on LEVEL ground that has been cleared and has good drainage. -Access to site needs to be easily accessible. A few steps are ok, but a large flight of stairs and/or tight corners will not work. -Vertical Garden coop consists of; (2) wood siding panels (choose 'grey' painted wood or cedar) (2) wire panels (1) wire gate with lock (1) vertical garden panel (1) corrugated metal sloped roof (1) nesting box (2) roosting poles (1) feeder box -No substitutions or changes to the design or color. -You may ADD to the design for an additional cost. Some items that may be added are additional run space, wire floor and/or additional nesting boxes and roosting poles. -I use appropriate materials for exterior conditions and for attachment to treated wood and cedar. The chicken coop will be very similar to the Garden roof chicken coop in terms of materials used. Only difference is a sloped roof made of corrugated metal roofing and a tiered, garden wall at one end. The concept is the sloped roof will direct and drain rainwater to the tiered garden containers. The garden containers are suitable for small plants like herbs, succulents or strawberries.

Keeping chickens sounds interesting but I'm not sure it's doable for me? I have a large roof space on my townhouse in Boise - but we have a couple of months of temperatures over 100 in summer and a few months of snow and freezing temperatures in winter.
Not so much certain death. There are some great websites to give you some ideas on how to keep them cool in the summer and warm in the winter. One nice thing is the garden on the roof of my chicken coops is a natural insulator that helps tremendously at keeping the coop cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
I would first start out with getting the correct breed of chicken that is suitable for your weather conditions. Try http://www.mypetchicken.com/chicken-breeds/which-breed-is-right-for-me.aspx
Also, check out the backyard chicken forum to search for threads that discuss keeping your chickens warm and cool.
It's not impossible, just something to be aware of as you plan what type of coop to get, what type of chicken to get and any accessories you'll need.
Good luck!
