September 17, 2010 "The third Friday of September is worldwide PARK(ing) Day, an annual event to celebrate public parks and highlight the need for more urban green space. Throughout the city more than 70 on-street parking spaces have been transformed into mini-parks for the day. These parks are supporting a wide variety of activities that vary from urban agriculture to golf. PARK(ing) Day is an annual, one-day, global event where artists, activists, and citizens independently but simultaneously temporarily transform metered parking spots into "PARK(ing)" spaces: temporary public parks. Did you know that nearly 28 percent of all land in Seattle is dedicated to automobile travel? And that doesn't even include private parking lots! PARK(ing) Day shows residents what their city would look like if more public space was allocated for urban parks, recreation, social interactions, and other people-centric pursuits, rather than the movement and storage of cars. Special shout out to City People's, Kippen Chicken Coop, and Bucket Brigade for joining SDOT in our temporary park at 5th and Columbia." Seattle Department of Transportation Urban Farm Hub

"We have a small lot, much of which is too shady and damp for chickens, and struggled to find a place that was good for our chickens yet didn't eat up our limited garden space. We finally connected with Traci who has designed a modular coop with a green roof. We're hooked - we didn't lose any garden space and we have fresh eggs! We have a Buff Orpington, a Rhode Island Red and a Black Star named Beady, Bessie, and Snoopyhead. Our young boys are loving the chickens!" KIPPEN HOUSE: Seattle & Portland. Modern, urban chicken coops, made-to-order. Kippen House custom chicken coops feature a modern style and garden roofs. |
